Milan Airports

Helping Airport Handling S.p.A. get a grip on ground-handling challenges with a targeted, integrated software solution.

At Milan Airports, one of Italy’s busiest airport networks with over 30 million passengers per year and peaks of 500 turnarounds per day, ground handling operations were causing a bottleneck in passenger processing. The legacy system, which relied on old-fashioned handheld devices, was hindering operations, especially for Italy’s flag-carrier airline, Alitalia. In order to upgrade and streamline ground handling operations, the main ground handler, Airport Handling S.p.A, turned to A-ICE’s A-HDB flights turnaround management system.

A-ICE airport operations software for Milan Malpensa Airport

Built on web-based technologies, open platforms, and state-of-the-art frameworks, the A-HDB system delivers all the necessary functionality to manage turnarounds within a single, centralized package. This allows for real-time alerts and communication between more than 150 concurrent ramp agents and 20 back-office supervisors. A-ICE was able to seamlessly integrate the A-HDB system into the airport’s existing technology ecosystem.

A-HDB was the solution to our needs,” said the Operations Manager of Airport Handling S.p.A.. “We now have a modern system, designed to manage efficiently our operations on the ground and provide better levels of service to our customers.

Underpinned by the right technology platform, ground handling challenges can be managed with efficiency, and staff can be empowered to perform at a higher level,” said Claudio Ferrari, Commercial Director of A-ICE. “The implementation of A-HDB at Milan Malpensa shows how this can be achieved, and we are delighted to have supported them on this transformation.
